Since 1980, the ozone layer has been severely depleted in the spring above the South Pole. Since then, the depletion has remained more or less constant with considerable variability from year to year. Above the North Pole, there has only been a depletion in a few years. For example, the ozone layer was up to 25% thinner above the North Pole in the spring of 2011 and 2020.
