In 2011, almost 17% of all the jobs in the Netherlands were located in the four major cities. Relatively more people worked than lived in urban areas.
Most jobs in urban areas
Almost 17% of jobs in the Netherlands were in the four major cities, compared with 14% of the potential labour force. The number of jobs corresponds to urbanisation levels. Looking at the live/work ratio, relatively more people work in urban areas than live there. The green municipalities on the map show that relatively more people live in these areas than work. These residential municipalities are either commuter areas or areas with a relatively low labour participation.
