Sustainable development

With respect to combatting climate change and reducing the ecological footprint of consumption, there is still a long way to go.

The amount of land required for the consumption of Dutch residents and the Dutch government was about three times the surface area of the Netherlands in 2010. Over 80% of the land use was abroad. Recently, the land use for biofuels increased.

Deforestation and the increased use of forests for production are increasing the pressure on forest biodiversity. In order to maintain forest biodiversity, more and more forests are being managed sustainably.

The editors have selected the most important indicators. Together, they provide a picture of sustainable developments.
