Increased landscape appreciation

In 2009, people gave the landscape in an area extending to about 15 km from their home (local area) an average appreciation mark of 7.6 out of 10 (de Boer & de Groot, 2010). This was 0.3 points higher than the mark given in 2006 - an average of 7.3. A comparison of similar surveys carried out amongst the Dutch population to monitor landscape appreciation showed an increase in the appreciation of the local landscape in more recent years.

National Landscape Network

The average appreciation of the most attractive Dutch landscapes - the National Landscape Network - did not change between 2002 and 2009 and, at 7.9/10, was almost at the target level (see figure). All the other landscapes were awarded lower marks.
